Oh look! People sitting in a Restaurant!
I was walking by one of the local Restaurants and I overheard someone say ’Oh Look! People sitting in a Restaurant”. and had to respond with a sketch.

I did a lot of acrylic paintings based on Ulysses many years ago.
I found the sketches I worked from and thought I should have a bit of fun and work them up on the mac. Heres one of the messy little sketches and a finished vector artwork.

A new illustrated book of stories from India.
An Gúm
‘An Eala Órga’, is the title of our new book. Author, Gabriel Rosenstock’s retelling of tales from the tradition of India and illustrated by me & published by An Gúm.
It’s always a pleasure working with the An Gúm team: Méabh Ní Loingsigh / Pádraic Ó Farachtáin and Identikit Design. This is the 3rd book to date with author Gabriel and I love working with the collection of stories he brings to the projects.
The first was a book on Haiku, the second on African Folktales (Óró na Circíní ) tales from the African folk tradition. And this new one is stories from India.

There are many short stories in the book with clever little twists. It begins with a story of the ‘Two-Headed Barúnda Bird’. The heads don’t get on that well and some bad choices are made. Then there’s the Golden Swan who takes pity on a poor mother and her two daughters and provides them with the gift of a golden feather. She revisits them from time to time with a single gold feather but the family get a little greedy. A plan is set in motion for a bigger financial withdrawal.
India is rich in tapestry illustration so I had plenty of references to study thanks to the Lexington Public Library.
I work closely with the designer, Mark Loughran. Once he has worked out the layout of the book it was clear how much space was available for the illustrations. I provide the pencil sketches and Mark included them in the first mock-up to the client. In addition I provided a finished illustration sample.
With some feedback we make the changes and additions and I moved ahead to completing the black line artwork. When it was approved I went ahead and completed the illustrations in colour. My work was done and Mark continued to fine tune the project & prepared everything for print.

La délirante odyssée d'Emma et Jules - Showcase at Bologna Children's Bookfair 2016
La délirante odyssée d'Emma et Jules, children's book in collaboration with Benjamin Grandclément of Les Apprentis Rêveurs
Brianfitzer met with Benjamin Grandclément at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2015.
“Benjamin liked my style of illustration and suggested he would keep me in mind for a project. Five months later I heard from him and we set to work together on his idea for a Carousel Book with 8 illustrations. When the book is tied open using the ribbons it sits on the table like a carousel. It will be readable as a book, and securing it with ribbons, you can use it as a playground. The book includes two easily assembled paper toys submarines to play with within the environment of the open book. The book also includes work-sheets of easy games for kids.

Cafe Branding Images
Xpresso Cafe Branding Images
Working with Tom Meenaghan & Associates I produced two full colour illustrations for the Xpresso Café identity in the Waterford Omniplex Cinema. The illustrations provide a backdrop to the café logo and the striking copy ‘Some like it hot’. A different colour palette is used for each piece. At first we thought of using one or two images on each background but as the project went on I experimented with a limited colour and opacity and arrived at the final artwork. They are busy and engaging visual with lots to discover as the eye moves across the colour & shapes.
